Dynamic Coaching Duo Launches Power Performance Camps
New Program Empowers, Educates Amateur Athletes
A pair of top athletic coaches have joined forces to create Power Performance Camps, an integrative, intensive approach designed to help young
amateurs in Chicago’s near west suburbs.
On November 6, John Hayley and Virg Gerin launched their twice-weekly camp at the Melrose Park Sports and Fitness Center, 1000 N. 25th Ave.
Hayley leads a contingent of performance enhancement coaches in helping develop speed, agility, quickness and power. Power Performance
also addresses often-overlooked elements such as proper nutrition and injury prevention. Hayley and his staff center instruction on
relevant movements that occur in a given athlete’s sport.
“We have a passion to help those who have a real hunger to improve,” said Hayley. “Games can be won or lost before they ever start.”
Participants range from those attending 5th grade through 12th grade. Space is often limited to 60 athletes, who will be grouped in two-year
increments. The camp aids any athletic endeavor, including baseball, basketball, football, and soccer.
“Our mission is to help athletes maximize their potential by showing them the proper way to train so they’re ready to perform when the whistle
blows,” Hayley said. “Speed, agility and athleticism can be taught.”
The camps fill a void in the Oak Park-River Forest area, where until now, athletes seeking personalized instruction beyond their schools’
athletic programs have largely turned to one-on-one mentoring.
Camp fees amount to less than $20 per session—quarter to one-third the professional rate that Hayley and other top coaches charge
when giving individualized instruction.
“We want to bring high-level athletic performance training to the large masses of youngsters whose families don’t have the finances to support
personal coaching,” Hayley said. “We give our students the winning edge.”
For the past two years, Power Performance has operated the pre-season conditioning program for approximately 300 Oak Park youth football
players.
